Expert Brill Babies percussionist /
vocalist, Scott Proce, likes to peg this
latest and most rewarding musical
venture as a "guilty pleasure, a real
departure from any other band I've ever
played in. It's stuff I always loved to
listen to...and now I realize I was not
alone!" We're with you, Scottie.
When he's not also developing his latest
project, Taft: The Musical, Scott loads
his hi-fi with swell platters from the likes
of Cheap Trick, Steve Earle, Redd Cross,
Tom Jones, and the often ignored
recorded work of Scott Baio. Those in
the know may have caught Mr. Proce
showcasing his many talents with
previous acts; the Impediments, Thrift
Store Halo, the beloved glam-metal
outfit, Lil' Darlings, and You-Four-Eee-Ah.
Scott insists he'd go heckle the new
drummer if he wasn't part of the Brill
Babies. To the best of his knowledge,
his furnace doesn't need repair..
When recently asked to define the
objective of the Brill Babies, bass player /
vocalist Frank Gradishar matter-of-factly
labeled it as "a commitment by three men
with two guitars and a little drum set to
bring the best music of all time to the
masses." Well put, Mr. Gradishar.
Frank has been known to yell "shhh" each
time a song by Bobby Darin, Willie Nelson,
Glen Miller, and Elvis Costello invades the
radio. He paved the way for later stage
success by spending time in musical outfits
such as Uforia, Big Hello, Invisible Touch
(the Sights and Sounds of Phil Collins), and
Thrift Store Halo, whose music has been
heard on televison programs like Party of
Five, Smallville and MTV's Undressed.
If he wasn't a proud member of the Brill
Babies, the fun-loving Frank swears he'd
form a Brill Babies tribute band. Sadly, he
has never owned a champion horse.
Guitarist / Vocalist Gerry O'Keefe likes
to think of the Brill Babies as a
"valiant crusade to preserve all the
great music that's been written since
the 1950s." He's quick to add that, on
some nights, he fondly views it as "an
updated, only slightly hipper, lounge
act." Sold!!!
Mr. O'Keefe draws his inspiration from
entertainers like Buddy Holly, Dionne
Warwick, Glen Campbell, and Chris
Isaak. His musical apprenticeship was
served as a singer and strummer in the
Neat Beat, the Knights of the Dolphin
Revue Band, U4EA, and Euphoria. In
recent years, Gerry's ditties could be
found in Amazon.com television
commercials and on the 2002 children's
music album, Music for the Heart.
After shuddering, Gerry declares that if
fate hadn't made him 1/3 of the Brill
Babies, he'd weep 'til they let him
join. Last May, he saved $3.27 at the
grocery store.
