The sound for yesterday, today and
tomorrow rolled into one has a peculiar
name: The Brill Babies. Frank, Gerry,
Scott, and for their skilled brassers, Andy
and Walt, are the names behind the name,
and it’s only through knowing this that you
realize there are pulses and honest-to-
goodness emotions propelling it all. What
we mean is Frank’s and Gerry’s trusty
guitars aren’t tops enough to self-pluck;
Andy’s trumpet and Walter’s sax don’t
blow the atmosphere through
themselves…and Scooter’s drums have yet
to signal 2 and 4 without the aid of a
steady human hand wrapped around a thin
piece of wood. Not to say there isn’t
many a tiresome night when this would all
come in…here goes…handy.
Connecting with YOUR emotional
foundation – now that’s where it’s really
at. YOUR feelings and YOUR reactions
mean more than cool water in the Sahara
to said names; and we won’t even tell you
what exceeding YOUR expectations is akin
to. Jeez. After all, if you’re kind enough
to part with a hard-earned Honest Abe (no
Hamiltons, please) just to walk through a
nightclub’s entrance, you deserve – and
probably demand - an experience you’ll
remember past the last sip of coffee the
next morning. Don’t you?
Prefer an R & B stomper to bump into that
gentle, timeless pop confection? Check.
Hope to be entertained to the point of
guilt, worn from tearing up the rug, and
plain silly with anticipation of what will
follow? Check. Check. Check. Sure, giving
you all that (and hopefully lots more) may
be thought a burden by most, but it’s kind
of a neat one to have. You see, crowd
pleasers thrive on pleasing, and there’s
simply no more apt description for The Brill
Babies. Making your interests their
“burden” is what makes them pleasers and,
quite honestly, a more swingin’ outfit
overall. Or, at least that’s what your
reactions have been telling us (yes…we’ve
been noticing). Here’s to yesterday,
